Things GNA Parents Should Know

Volunteering

GNA depends on your volunteer efforts during the season. Beth Pryde is the organizer; contact bccpryde@yahoo.com.

  • Meals: We use VolunteerSpot and ask that families help provide two (2) post-race meals, split with another family. Parents can adopt a full meal instead of two partial meals.

  • Races: You will be assigned to work twice during the season on the race hill either gate-keeping, score-keeping, starting the racers, or slipping the hill.

Problems

If racers have an issue, we ask they address it with the coaches directly. Parents should not contact coaches until at least 24 hours have passed from the initial complaint.

Absences

Absences must be relayed at least 48 hours in advance to coaches by racers; illness excepted. Racers may be benched from racing if chronic unexcused absences are noted, even during dry land.

Snow days

No school, no practice. Coaches will text specifics about races out of town.

Team captains

If your racer thinks she/he would like to be a team captain, the racers must arrange an interview with the coaches. They will be expected to explain what they think leadership means. Team captainships are an honor and must be earned. They should never be assumed. It is possible no team captain will be named.

Time Trials

Time trials are held in December as conditions allow. Racer spots will stay the way time trials determine (with potential variation at the coaches' discretion throughout the season.)

Group Text

To join the group text, text @gnalpine to 81010. Texts are used during the week to inform racers and families about training, race delays, and other breaking news.

Live Timing

Live Timing is a great tool that shows live time ski racing results. Download their app or visit live-timing.com for more.
